The puppies of Chernobyl are undeniably the most frustratingly adorable thing I’ve ever seen. In case you aren’t aware, the Chernobyl disaster of 1986 is widely considered the most catastrophic nuclear accident of all time. Not only was the initial damage terrible and deadly, the radiation is still dangerous to this day. In fact, a 1000 square mile radius around the area is called the Exclusion Zone and is mostly shut off the public – it will be another 45+ years of cleaning up before the area is possibly normalized.
BUT – there’s a glimmer of absolute cuteness within the zone: puppies! Drew Scanlon documents the adorable discovery in the video below. In an area so devastated by a catastrophe, puppers are a beautiful sight to see.
Not being able to pet these pups would be the hardest thing I’ve ever done. We can only hope they live healthy lives in this area!
