Hope For Paws received a call about a senior dog who was left behind by his family, and they immediately took action. When they arrived, the neighbors told them that the dog’s owners moved away about a year ago and left their senior dog to fend for himself.
The poor dog stayed right by the family’s old home hoping they would come back for him, but they never did. And they never would. But thankfully, Stewie’s life was about to take a turn for the better.
Lisa Arturo and JoAnn Wiltz worked to rescue the dog, but he was so scared he kept running away from them. They waited by the abandoned home for him to return, and that’s when they were able to catch him. Stewie didn’t understand that the rescuers were there to help, but he would soon experience some desperately needed love and care.
Back at the facilities, the first step was to give Stewie a bath. This is when they noticed a number of tumors all over the dog’s body. X-rays then revealed rocks in Stewie’s stomach that he’d eaten while he was starving and waiting for his owners to return.
All of Stewie’s tumors were found to be benign and were removed. The dog was placed in foster care shortly after where his real personality began to shine, and the sweet senior dog would eventually go on to a forever home with a family who’d show him what real love is. 🙂
