Dog In Italy Goes Into Labor And Gives Birth To A Green Puppy

A farmer in Italy named Cristian Mallocci witnessed his dog, Spelacchia, go into labor and give birth to a rare green puppy. The pup was part of a five-dog litter, but all of his brothers and sisters had white fur just like the mama. The man named the green boy Pistachio!

A puppy born with green fur is very rare, and it’s believed to be the result of the pup making contact in the womb with a green pigment called biliverdin. It’s harmless, and Pistachio’s color has already started to fade and will continue to do so.

The farmer put the four other puppies up for adoption but decided to keep Pistachio around to help him herd sheep on the farm one day. And since green is the color of luck and hope, this seems like a solid idea! 😉
