Aurora, a three-year-old girl from Warwick, Australia, wandered away from her home on the family’s vast property with Max. The 17-year-old deaf and partially-blind Australian Cattle Dog ventured with her and never left her side, and now he’s being hailed a hero.
It’s easy to get lost on the big property, and that’s exactly what happened to the toddler. She had been missing for 16 hours when found a mile away from home but still technically on their land. Aurora’s grandmother, Leisa Bennett, told ABC News that she called out for her granddaughter while searching and could faintly hear her calling back in the distance.
“I shot up the mountain and when I got to the top, the dog came to me and led me straight to her,” Aurora’s grandmother said.
Max had stayed with his human sister for all 16 hours and never once thought about leaving her side. Queensland Police commended Max on Twitter for his loyalty and companionship and even made the dog an honorary member of the force!
Twitter followers also chimed in with praise for the heroic senior dog.
Amazing! Max is a very good boy and deserves all of the attention and treats possible. 🙂
