Dog walker Eric Maus was walking two of his clients, Gouda and Lily, through Prospect Park on Monday when he came across a big dog all by her lonesome. It was a pit bull tied to a tree with a note attached.

“Take me home. I’m a great dog. I’m 7 years old. Don’t let my size scare you. I’m sweet.”
As Eric approached with the two other dogs, the pit didn’t move an inch. She really was the sweetest dog and very gentle.

The dog walker knew he had to do something, but he didn’t know what. Mamas was abandoned by an owner who seemed to care for her somewhat, and Prospect Park isn’t a good spot for a dog to be alone.
So Eric took to Facebook and posted a photo of Mamas to a neighborhood page asking for advice and help, and within just a few minutes responses started coming in. One Good Samaritan met them by the tree and arranged for a vehicle to pick them up outside of the park to take them to Sean Casey Animal Rescue. The nearby shelter had a kennel available for Mamas.

The two walked Mamas out of the park together, but she had to take it slowly. Due to her size and a possible bladder infection, she couldn’t walk at a normal pace. They loaded her up to take her to the rescue, and when she got there, her hesitancy seemed to go away completely.
It seemed Mamas was ready to move on in life as she jumped out of the car and proceeded into the shelter! She knew she was finally safe. 🙂

Mamas needs to receive a clean bill of health and stay through the required stray hold, then she’ll be ready to move on to her forever home.

But for now, Mamas is just happy to be out of the park and surrounded by people who care. Eric knows whoever is lucky enough to adopt the sweet girl will have one amazing pet. 🙂
