The Alachua County Fire Rescue and High Springs Fire Department were called upon when a family’s Golden Retriever wandered into a 40-foot deep sinkhole that had opened up on their property. The dog had no way out, and the family was worried.

Sammy was so far down, they had to use an extension ladder to get ACFR Lieutenant, Brian Ferguson, to the bottom. With the help of some bacon to calm the nervous dog, Lt. Ferguson established trust before picking Sammy up to carry him to safety.

The rescue was a success, and the Golden Retriever managed to escape the situation without injury. Sammy is at home and doing well with his family. Great work by these emergency responders! 🙂
