A healthy dog is a happy dog. And a happy dog makes for a happy human! Adding superfoods to your dog’s daily food intake creates a balanced diet that can boost your pooch’s overall health. These common household foods are full of nutrients that are specifically beneficial to dogs. But as with all diets changes, always remember to contact your veterinarian first.
#1 — Apples (without seeds)
Apples are packed with fiber and make great treats for dogs. They also help clean their teeth and freshen their breath. Just remember — no seeds!
#2 — Carrots
Carrots contain beta-carotene which converts to vitamin A in the body making them a great option for dogs. They are packed with vitamins and minerals and also act as great chews to clean their teeth!
#3 — Bananas
The natural sugars in bananas metabolize quickly to act as an amazing diet booster for active dogs. They’re perfect to give before long walks or any other physical activity. Bananas are also full of vitamin C, potassium, amino acids, and electrolytes.
#4 — Sweet Potatoes
Rich in fiber and naturally occuring sugars, sweet potatoes also provide lots of antioxidants to help prevent certain types of cancers. This superfood adds a little sweetness to a dog’s diet.
#5 — Broccoli
This popular green veggie is rich in lutein which is good for your dog’s eyes. Broccoli is also a great source of fiber, calcium, and potassium!
#6 — Kelp
As a terrific source of calcium, folic acid, vitamin A, and iodine, vets say Kelp can improve energy, boost the immune system, and aid in weight loss.
#7 — Quinoa
The highly nutritious seed is full of fiber and protein and is usually easy for dogs to digest. It’s no wonder it’s referred to as the “mother of all grains”!
#8 – Raw Local Honey
Just like with humans, when dogs eat small amounts of local pollen found in raw local honey, it can help fight off seasonal allergens. It can also help with sensitive skin and eyes!
What’s not to love about a healthier dog? Be sure to share this with all of your friends and family! 🙂
