A man named Don Chatten was at the Bark Park at Ellicott Creek Park with his two rescue dogs when one of them started acting funny. He didn’t know what to think at first but then heard a tiny whimpering coming from the creek below.
And there it was; a tiny dog was stranded in the icy water. He yelled out for someone to call 911 but knew the dog wouldn’t survive much longer, so he jumped in. He broke the ice with his forearm and went out in the waist-deep water to grab the dog. He held the dog up by his chest as he brought it back to safety.
The dog was a Terrier mix named Jackson who’d been missing in the area for a bit. The pup was taken to the vet and given emergency care, and they said the dog was saved because of Don’s quick thinking and selfless act. Jackson’s owner was relieved to get his pet back.
Locals are calling Don a hero, but he wants the credit to go to his dog who sensed the danger in the first place. They’re both pretty amazing in our eyes! 🙂
