The Massachusetts State Police received a call about a wounded dog in the road, and Trooper Carlo Mastromattei set out for the rescue. But what he found was no dog.
There on the side of the road was a scared coyote pup with no mother in sight. He couldn’t leave the poor fella there but no environmental, wildlife, or local animal control officials were available to help at this hour. He then called Lisa Cutting at Ocean View Kennels to help secure the pup with a crate.
This is where Trooper Mastromattei would go above and beyond the call of duty to help a little animal in need. He would take the pup to his girlfriend who would keep the coyote overnight at in her house.
After a night of great care, Ocean View Kennels would transport the pup to Tufts Wildlife where he was examined and determined to be healthy. The little guy is going to be transferred to a wildlife specialist who will rehabilitate him and release him back into the wild when ready.
“The Department offers its sincere thanks to Trooper Mastromattei, his girlfriend, Ocean View Kennels, and Tufts for their compassionate care for this beautiful little creature,” the Massachusetts State Police said in a statement on Facebook.
How amazing! 🙂
