On the campus of Colombia’s Diversified Technical Education Institute of Monterrey Casanare lives a sweet black dog named Negro. He’s called this home for the past five years and sort of watches over things as the students go about their daily activities.
Negro is cared for by the school’s faculty who provide him with food and water and a safe place to sleep at night. And by watching and paying attention to the students all day every day, the dog has picked up on a nifty little trick. 😉
He would watch students go to this little store on campus where they could buy things on their breaks, and sometimes they’d buy him a cookie sold there. He noticed them exchanging currency for these treats, and this is where Negro learned a little bit about commerce!
He had to try this out for himself! So Negro went and grabbed a leaf (it’s green, close enough!) to trade in for a cookie. And it worked! The dog had come up with his own currency right then and there! Leaves can buy treats, and money does in fact grow on trees. 😉
Negro has been doing this for years now, and the staff always makes sure to play along. They only give him treats that are safe for dogs to eat and limit his purchases to just a few times per day — or else there’d be no leaves left on any of the trees on campus. 😛
What a clever pooch!
