The staff at Douglas County Animal Care & Services in Gardnerville, Nevada, came to work one morning to find a matted, abandoned animal on the doorstep. The pet was abandoned there overnight, and the surveillance footage caught the entire thing. They assumed the animal was a dog, but they would be wrong…
The unidentified man was caught on the security camera dropping the animal off in a crate and leaving it for good.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s office made a Facebook post asking for assistance in identifying the man:
The shelter assumed it was a dog as a lot of neglected dogs end up with badly matted fur, but they couldn’t be sure at first.
They couldn’t even turn the animal around to see it because of the way it was shoved in the carrier.
But when they took the top off and saw its face, they were shocked. They’d never seen a cat in this sort of condition.
The poor cat couldn’t move and was a prisoner in its own fur.
After 4.5 pounds of fur were shaved from the cat, he was looking normal again. The matted mess filled a full-size kitchen trash bag!
But now they could tell the cat was severely overweight. They named him Bob Marley and put him on a special diet.
Bob Marley was put up for adoption and got a forever home after only a few days! He’ll never be neglected again. 🙂
As for the man who dropped the animal off at the shelter overnight, it’s unclear if he was abandoning his own pet or if he was just trying to help out an animal in need he’d come in contact with along the way. Either way, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office would like to talk to the man to find out any and all information on the abandoned cat.
